Registration for 10/1 Storytelling Event Now Open for Medicaid and SNAP Beneficiaries
On July 4, 2025, President Trump signed federal budget legislation (the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," or OBBBA) that will bring sweeping changes to SNAP and Medicaid programs. The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services estimates that as many as 330,000 residents will become uninsured and the state could lose $52 Billion in federal funding over ten years.
The Protect Our Care Illinois Medicaid Storytelling Collection Workshop is part of the coalition's effort to resist harmful cuts to Medicaid and SNAP. When lawmakers hear directly from beneficiaries to understand the value of these programs and the profound impact they have on people’s lives, they are more likely to understand the need for change.
Participants will receive a “Storytelling for Change” training, followed by dedicated time to develop and practice sharing their Medicaid story. The session will conclude with an opportunity for participants to record their stories to be shared with lawmakers.
All workshop participants must be currently enrolled in Medicaid and/or SNAP. Professionals are encouraged to share this registration link and/or this flyer with beneficiaries in their networks who may be interested.
